Shocked by your recent water bill?
July 19, 2008

Many residents of Glenlake received a rude awakening this month when they opened their latest water bill from LCRA. Some of us have received moderate to alarmingly high increases from last month to this one in their meter reads. If you are part of this group there are two things you can do:

  • Join the Glenlake Yahoo Group discussion: Members of the Glenlake Yahoo Group are collecting information and coordinating a response to send to LCRA.
  • Contact LCRA directly: Call Dennis Daniel at (877)718-4396 Ext. 3301

Halloween in GlenlakeHalloween 2006

Halloween Hayride
Sunday, 28 October 2007

Gather at 4:30pm on Sunday, 28 October, at the Ranch Creek cul-de-sac. Trailers will depart beginning at 5pm.

We need volunteers to make this popular event successful. Still needed are:

  • Spotters: We need 3 or 4 more spotters to signal the drivers when it's safe to proceed.
  • TREATERS: If you live along the route and want to treat the Glenlake spooks, call Myra at 345-4889 or email halloween@glenlakehoa.org no later than 1:00pm on Sunday, 28 October. Clearly state your name and address on the answering machine or in an email. Your mailbox will be marked with survey tape so the trailers know to stop at your house.
  • Refreshments: We need volunteers to provide lemonade or ice water in a 5-gallon cooler. Napkins, long table, trash can, and any other offers for refreshments are greatly appreciated.

Please contact Myra at 345-4889 or email halloween@glenlakehoa.org if you can help. Refer to the Halloween flyer for the route and more details.

Glenlake General Meeting
Tuesday, 16 October, 7pm-9pm

River Place Country Club, Overlook I

Glenlake residents enjoyed two great presentations about the Balcones Canyonland Preserve and Wildfire Risks and Prevention Techniques by the very knowledgeable Gail McGlamery and Glen Gillman. Glen drove around Glenlake and customized his advice for our particular area and housing types!!! I'll have the contact information that Gail and Glen provided, more details about the meeting, new board members, and the minutes posted soon.

Postal Theft in Glenlake

On 24 August 2007 a residence on Turkey Creek had a check stolen from their outgoing mail. They were unaware of the theft until contacted by a Travis County Sheriff's detective on 29 August. The family was given a case number and told that the check was being held as evidence for the upcoming trial. The detective told the family that a raised flag on a mailbox can be a signal to theives that you might have valuable outgoing mail.

An official with the Austin USPS requests that, if you experience any problems with your mail, to contact the Austin USPS Consumer Affairs at 342-1251. They will investigate the situation. This includes problems with LCRA bills not arriving. If your mail is stolen, the USPS requests that you report the theft to the Sheriff's department and notify them in writing at:

Special Inspection Services
P.O. Box 142148
Austin, TX 78714

Please also continue to contact the Glenlake Neighborhood Association so we can keep abreast of the mail problems. We are here to help you.

Citizen Alert

12 Sept 2007. Today the Citizen Observer issued a Citizen Alert to notify area residents that there have been several BURGLARY OF VEHICLE and BURGLARY OF RESIDENCES in the Lost Creek area during the past month. Almost all of the Burglary of Vehicles had forced entry. Detective Danny Canty (Danny.canty@co.travis.tx.us, or 854-4314) is the contact for these incidents, and he reminds residents in the Lost Creek area to report ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY and DO NOT leave anything of value in your vehicle. Write down any serial numbers of your computers, cameras, IPODS, navigation systems, and other valuable items. The Travis County Sherriff's office also is seeing an increase in nighttime resident burglaries in Western Travis County, and burglary of vehicles parked along the 360 Corridor. You can access or sign up for Citizen Alerts at http://www.citizenobserver.com.

Webb Estates Rezoning

Thanks to all Glenlake residents who contacted the Mayor and Council Members and came to City Hall for the 9 August 2007 City Council meeting. 2222CONA neighborhoods proved our slogan that "Together We Can Make a Difference!" After weeks of shenanigans the applicant changed their rezoning request from SF-1 to Rural Residential on Thursday morning prior to the afternoon hearing. The RR zoning designation is what we have been advocating is the proper land use designation since May! See the Webb Estates project page on the 2222CONA site for more details.

Glenlake General Meeting & Picnic

We enjoyed a beautiful day on Lake Austin for the 4 August 2007 Glenlake Meeting and Picnic. Thanks to all the Glenlake residents who attended and made this such a fun event. We also want to give HUGE thanks to:

  • Superintendent Alberto Perez for allowing us to use Emma Long Park and discussing the archery range, preserve, and park history with us
  • LCRA representatives Janet Stephenson, Angie Flores, and Jason Eichler for informing Glenlake residents of the new plans for the water system and discussing questions and issues
  • Jim Casey of the River Place MUD for attending and answering questions about the RPMUD
  • Dale and Pat Bulla, Carol and Peter Torgrimson, and Patricia Seeger of 2222CONA for sharing their extensive knowledge of development in the 2222 Corridor area and green living practices.

There have been two sightings of coral snakes this spring, one near a front sidewalk of a home on Glenlake Drive and another along the grassy area next to Far View Drive. Rattle snakes also have been sited in the area recently. 'tis the season to keep a watchful eye and be careful where you step and what you pick up!

The last thing that any of us need are more advertisements. But, these advertisements have one major bonus—the revenue collected goes directly into the GNA coffers! Though some of the advertisements that you'll find here need to generate a lot of traffic to be profitable, some of them—such as the Google Pack, Google's photo organizer (Picasa) or the Firefox browser—can generate up to $2.00 if you click to follow them, download and install the free (and very useful) software for the first time on your Windows PC. Please be sure to download and install the software directly from the advertisement link or the GNA can't receive credit.

Reporting Bugs and Broken Links

Please be sure to include the link to the page(s) in question, a description of the issue and how you encountered it, and if possible, which browser and browser version that you're using. Also, any information that you can provide about your computer setup (Macintosh or PC, what operating system that you're using, and any special confuguration or setting that you may be using that could potentially affect the problem in question) is very valuable.
